Your NetID is a unique identifier that provides access to your Cornell email and other non-public Cornell resources and information.

Two-Step Login is used to help keep your information safe, even if your password is stolen. To set up Two-Step Login, you may use a smartphone, cell phone, tablet, U2F Security key, or landline phone. Students should set up Two-Step Login when activating their NetID. Two-Step Login is required to access required resources including Student Center, Canvas, and Student Essentials.

Steps to Activate NetID, Email, and Two-Step Login

1. Confirm your enrollment with Cornell and submit an enrollment deposit.
2. After your deposit is processed, an email will be sent to the email address used for your Cornell application with instructions for activating NetID and email.

Graduate Students

You will receive an email with instructions to set up your NetID via ApplyWeb.

Professional Students (Cornell Tech, Johnson, Law, and Vet)

You will receive an email with instructions to activate your NetID and Cornell email account online or via text message.

3. Next, visit the IT@Cornell website and set up Two-Step Login to gain access to required resources including Student Center and Student Essentials.

All new students must memorize their 7 digit Cornell ID #.

This is your unique personal identifier at Cornell. It will be printed on your Student ID Card. You will be required to use it for:

• forms
• exams
• paying your bill
• security verifications and more.

NOTE: Your Cornell ID number is different than your Cornell Network ID (NetID). Your NetID consists of your initials plus a number. You use it, along with a password, to obtain secure access to online services at Cornell.

Your email address will be your NetID@cornell.edu.

Whether you're a single student or have a spouse, partner, or family, our friendly housing complexes, convenient dining options, and abundance of supportive resources will ensure that you feel at home while pursuing your academic interests.

Learn more about your housing options, and apply for housing, at Cornell Housing. There is no deadline to apply for graduate and professional student housing. Applications are processed in the order received.

If you have a special housing request due to a disability or medical condition, register with Student Disability Services (SDS) as soon as possible after admission. Accessible housing requests will be considered based on the nature of the disability and available housing to meet access needs. In addition to the traditional meal plans, be sure to check out City Bucks - a pre-paid declining balance account accessed through your Student ID Card that eliminates the need to carry cash at many off-campus locations.

If you have a current, working Student ID Card, you do not need to get a new one. Once we create a new card for you, your current card will stop working.

Depending on your relationship to the university and the services that you sign up for, your ID card can also be used as an electronic door key and to access a variety of functions and facilities on campus, including athletic events, CornellCard charges, dining units, fitness centers, libraries, and transportation services.

Before enrolling for your first semester, you must submit an official, final transcript of your undergraduate degree to the Graduate School Admissions office with the degree marked as conferred or awarded.

• The Graduate School Admissions office requires its own official copy of your documents. Any transcripts or other academic records that you submitted with your application, or sent directly to your admitting program, will not fulfill the final transcript requirement.
• If you earned your undergraduate degree at an institution outside of the United States of America, you must provide a transcript, a certified copy of your diploma and/or degree certificate, and a certified translation of all documents if they are not already in English.
• If you earned your undergraduate degree from Cornell University, you do not need to submit a transcript.

Note: If you will be studying away from campus this spring semester, you are strongly encouraged – but not required – to upload your immunization documents now.

If you have not yet submitted all forms and documentation to meet your New Student Health Requirements, please do so as soon as possible.

Your status on the To Do List will remain "incomplete" until your infomation has been:

1. submitted by you; then
2. reviewed and approved by Cornell Health (may take 3-4 weeks)

If we discover problems with any of your forms or submissions, you will receive an email directing you to view a secure message in myCornellHealth.

If you are unable to meet your health requirements before coming to Cornell, you must meet your requirements as soon as you get to campus (charges may apply). A hold will be placed on your registration status until you complete your requirements.

Students with disabilities are encouraged to self-identify with Student Disability Services (SDS) and request accommodation and services as needed. Students with a broad range of conditions such as medical and mental health conditions, learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders and sensory disabilities use our services to address their access needs.

Deadlines

• Accessible Housing Requests: Students are encouraged to start the process as early as possible. SDS and the Graduate Housing Office will work with students to identify housing options that meet their access needs. Limited housing is available and housing applications are considered on a rolling basis.
• Academic and Other Access Requests: Submit as soon as possible to allow adequate time to review your request. Some disability services require advance planning to have in place at the start of the semester.

Cornell Fitness Centers offer fun, stress-relieving, safe, convenient, and enjoyable exercise programs with five centers located around campus, more than 95 group exercise classes each week, and an extensive variety of cardio and weight equipment.

You will be automatically enrolled in Cornell's Student Health Plan (SHP) as part of university policy requiring students to have adequate health insurance. The SHP premium will be reflected on your December Bursar bill, and your coverage will begin January 1.

(Exception: NYS Medicaid-eligible students in Ithaca may be eligible for Cornell's Student Health Plan Plus (SHP+). SHP+ enrollees do not need to do anything about this item.)

Waive the Student Health Plan

Eligible domestic students who already have insurance that meets Cornell's requirements may submit a SHP waiver application between December 1 and January 15, once you have activated your NetID.

Waiver applications are not accepted from:

• Fully funded graduate students, who have SHP provided as part of their program
• International students, who are required to maintain their SHP enrollment (with some exceptions, including for distance-learning students)

Ithaca students: If your waiver application is approved, you will pay a student health fee to support access to Cornell Health services.)

Additional Coverage (Optional)

Dental & Vision Plans

All students are eligible to enroll in Cornell's dental and vision plans. The enrollment deadline is January 31.

Enrolling Dependents

SHP and dental/vision plan enrollees may also enroll dependents. The deadline is January 31.

Students are required to provide emergency contact information. Keep this and all addresses and phone numbers including Emergency Mass Notification information complete – and current – in the student information system. This will ensure you receive critical information and alerts.

Financial institutions, including the financial departments of colleges and universities, are required by federal laws to be transparent with their policies/procedures and requirements. Our goal is to help students to understand the cost of their education and their financial responsibilities, as well as Cornell’s financial policies and expectations for payment.

For this reason, all Cornell students are required to accept the Financial Responsibility Agreement when they first register at Cornell. Signing this agreement is your acknowledgment of your financial obligations related to enrolling in classes, and your understanding of the potential consequences that may result if you fail to meet your obligations.

The CornellCard account is an optional service that allows you to make purchases by presenting your Student ID Card. This service can help you manage your day-to-day expenses without having to carry large amounts of cash.

Bursar student refunds and university stipends (financial aid) are issued electronically. Students must enter their banking information and manage their account through the secure Cornell Nelnet (NetID and Two-Step Login required).

Bursar bills are electronic, via Cashnet, paper bills will not be sent.

1. Activate your Cornell NetID and email address.
2. Cashnet is Cornell's e-billing system. Incoming students must grant access to other users/payers to view or pay the tuition bill.
3. Pay your tuition bill by February 7. The January e-bill including spring semester tuition will be available via Cashnet on January 9.

Cornell University is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning, living, and working environment for its students, faculty, and staff members. All incoming graduate and professional students are required to view Not Anymore, an online interpersonal violence prevention program from Vector Solutions.

This video-based program will provide critical information about sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, stalking, gender discrimination and bystander intervention options.

The program will take approximately 40 minutes to complete. If you choose to complete the program in several sittings, you will be able to use the same link to re-enter the program without having to start over. The program must be completed in its entirety.

If you run into problems watching or reentering the program, do not start over. Contact us through the HELP button and we will assist you.

Program Instructions

1. View Program Now (NetID required).
2. On the Account Set Up page, you should see your name and NetID. To verify, simply click the button "Create Account." This will allow you to begin the program.

The free Big Red Sports Pass gives you access to all home athletic contests (except men's ice hockey) at no cost (when visitor access resumes). Sign up for the pass now. Once you sign up, the service activates on your Student ID Card.

The office of Spirituality and Meaning Making (OSMM) supports all Cornell students — regardless of their religious or ethical traditions — in deepening their beliefs and discovering a sense of meaning and purpose.

Through programming, social events, community service, and religious services OSMM provides opportunities for exploration of spiritual beliefs, consideration of one's meaning and purpose, examination of the interconnected nature of humanity, and the pursuit of a more socially just world. OSMM also supports Cornell United Religious Work (CURW), a community of affiliated chaplains—religious, spiritual, and secular leaders — who offer additional spiritual support, programming, and service opportunities.

CURW coordinates the programs of the major religious traditions that have a presence at Cornell. The member groups of CURW sponsor services, social and cultural events, and lectures. We are available to counsel you and your family in times of crisis.

Ithaca's gorges are beautiful, but dangerous, too. Take a few minutes to watch this video on safe and responsible use of the gorges. Two gorges run through the Cornell campus. While the water in the creeks is alluring, it is deceptively treacherous. In this video, you will learn about the dangers you can't see, and ways to safely explore and enjoy the gorges and natural areas at Cornell and nearby.

Introduction to the Campus Code of Conduct

The essential purpose of the University's governing of community conduct is to protect and promote the University community's pursuit of its educational goals. The University, as an educational institution, has a special set of interests and purposes, the protection and promotion of which are essential to its effective functioning. These interests and purposes are enshrined in the Campus Code of Conduct.

Use Canvas to read and review a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation on the Campus Code of Conduct, and complete an attestation at the end of the presentation. This is due February 7.

Note: it may take up to a week after you have submitted your enrollment deposit before you are able to log in to Canvas.

Transit Access: Spring entrant New-to-Cornell students automatically receive free, unlimited-ride TCAT bus privileges until December 31, 2021. No need to submit a form. Students must use their Student ID Card at the fare box and remain registered to access this privilege.

Vehicle Registration and/or Parking Permits: Parking on the Ithaca campus is extremely limited. Students are strongly encouraged to leave their vehicle at home, and rely on the excellent public transit service provided by TCAT. Students can register their vehicle (required; free) and purchase a parking permit (optional; price varies) for their residential area or a commuter lot prior to their arrival. When permits sell out, parking options will be limited to short-term paid parking.

Bikes: Bicycle registration (free) is mandatory if you ride or store a bike on the Ithaca campus.

Sign in to Student Essentials (NetID and Two-Step Login required) to view your registration status. Beginning February 9, if you are registered, you will see a green check mark. The absence of a green check mark means you have a hold that is preventing registration. Learn more about university registration.
